A crosswalk is a place where people walk, a place of experience. People think of crosswalks as abstract white lines but they are material, three-dimensional artifacts that register social and physical forces of city nature. They register time, telling a story through weathering and the emergence of cracks, or of change in the topography of the asphalt below.
