_REGISTRATION_XWALK

Patterns of wear at crosswalks register and make visible forces that belong to different ecological and social systems. Sidewalks, curbs, and streets are subject to different kinds of weathering and erosion. Storm water runoff is an erosive force that makes something happen between the pavement of the sidewalk and the curb. The patterns that we see are a registration of physical and/or chemical weathering processes: physical abrasion by vehicles and pedestrians; physical weathering due to temperature, pressure, and frost; chemical weathering by salts intended to melt snow and ice.
