Strategies for Building City Landscape | Petrosino Park, Manhattan
“Strategies for Building City Landscape” is an essay I wrote that was published in Daidalos (n.73).
The piece maps a conceptual territory for the construction of American urban space that includes nature. The research presented here through two forms -a theoretical text that establishes an interpretive framework and the presentation of a specific urban landscape- focuses on the design of everyday spaces that exist not despite pressures, but alongside them in the context of contemporary social and spatial conditions. Its relational approach to architecture, landscape and city establishes interdependent ways of thinking that recognize aspects of the urban outdoor space, such as site, ground, nature and space, which architects often take for granted, but which in fact need to be constructed.
