Myths of modernity in which city and nature do not 'see' each other.

In this collage, the pastoral dream of Asher Brown Durand’s 1849 painting, “Kindred Spirits,” meets the metropolitan vision of the modern city in Fritz Lang’s 1927 film, “Metropolis.” The meeting is made possible by an infrastructure, which situates and bridges nature and city. The steel frame that forms the infrastructure is a photo of the support for the constructed ground of Linda Pollak’s project for 500 Park Tower Penthouse Terrace (1992).
